The Romantic Era was not only known for its contribution to Littrature but also to art.The following pieces of artwork are some of the most interesting pieces I could find.

In The Garden![]() In this painting by Thomas Wilmer Dewing we see the Romantic Period exemplified in two ways. One way is that the women are in a place of importance, at the center. As you know, the Romantics held women in high regard. The other way that this painting exemplifies the Romantic Period is that it is filled with nature: the trees, the cloudy skies and the blurry haze.

Sketch for Hadleigh Castle![]() The Sketch for Hadleigh Castle by John Constable represents the Romantic period in several ways. The first of which being the clouds; early romantic painters and artists used cloudy skies as a representation of the change that was to come in the future after the war was over. Another way that the early Romantics would paint is using size to convey importance; look at the size of the man compared to the size of the ruins. Then compare the size of the ruins to the size of nature surrounding it; nature dominate both man and man's construction. This painting is Romantic in that this great Castle is decaying and falling apart piece by piece, representing the idea that nature conquers all.

Two Men Observing the Moon![]() Two Men Observing the Moon By Caspar David Friedrich is romantic simply because of the use of nature as a force. In this painting we see not one but two men viewing the beauty of nature, becoming engulfed in the stupendousness of creation. Some symbolism of this is that, though the men are in the picture, they are not the main idea of the painting. The main point of the painting is the moon; the artist has placed the moon directly in the center to draw the attention of the viewer to the importance of nature.
